What Students Are Saying...About CAM

Evan, UW-Madison Undergraduate
Four things came to mind when I think of CAM's impact on my life. First, CAM has grounded me. In the hectic life of a student, CAM has been a reliable outlet of positive living through my college experience. As such, CAM has supported me -- when times are difficult, I know I have a faith-centered place where I can be reminded of the God that is always with me. CAM has networked me -- many of my best friends of the last four years I met first at CAM, and I am better from their impact on my life. Finally, CAM has taught me -- in happy and challenging experiences alike, I am closer to God from my experiences at CAM, and I believe CAM has brought me closer to the way Christ wants us to live.

CAM has had a huge affect in my life over the past few years. Starting as a freshman, it gave me a smaller community to call home and made the huge church suddenly feel like a huge part of my life, rather than just a Sunday bus ride and sermon. As I continued to get to know people, I realized that this was somewhere I could truly be fed - support and friendship, real conversations about God and his word, and awesome relationships with adults who make college feel like home away from home. What more could a college kid want? But even beyond that I found something deeper - friends who have as much of a passion to serve as I do and who are actually doing it; adults who support me physically, mentally, and emotionally in every step I take; and a place where Christ is the center. I think if I had to sum up CAM in one word, it would be opportunity - opportunity to love, be loved, serve, be served, grow, help others grow, and maybe even get a free load of laundry here and there.

I have been a member of CAM since my freshman year, and I would like to tell you a little bit about how being involved in this group has affected my life. After finding Blackhawk Church by paging through a phone book (Blackhawk was first alphabetically) and enjoying one of Pastor Chris's messages, I desired to find out what more the church offered to college students. I discovered "The LINK", which has since evolved into what is now as CAM. After attending for a while, I got involved in the Tech Team, and I continue to serve there now. CAM has been pivotal in my life because it has given me so many opportunities and resources that have deepened my faith and changed my outlook on life. I have found valuable mentorship through the adult leadership. I have seen God work in wonderful ways through events such as the Hurricane Katrina relief trips in New Orleans. I have been surrounded with a wonderful community of people. I am excited to see how God will continue to use this group and I will miss having it as part of my life after graduation.
